BARBARA HEATH is one Australia's most influential contemporary jewellers. Based in Queensland, a studio jeweller, Barbara has been exploring contemporary jewellery themes for many decades. The Queensland Art Gallery recently honoured her contribution with a retrospective exhibition and catalogue. She has been featured as a spokesperson in television documentaries and on radio ABC.
The artist works in precious metals and has a very innovative approach to traditional jewellery forms- the necklace, the ring etc. Most recently the she travelled to London, visiting collections at the London Museum and the V&A, most particularly the extraordinary jewellery treasures of the Cheapside Hoard. This reseach formed the basis for Another Time, a collection shown first at the KATHERINE KALAF GALLERY. Perth. Another Time celebrates the imagery and materials and techniques of Elizabethan and early European bridal and court jewellery.
