julia deville

JULIA DEVILLE is inspired by Memento Mori jewellery of 16th - 18th centuries/

Using unusual materials such as jet (petrified wood), human hair, gold and silver with facetted precious beads, de Ville creates a jewellery collection that reminds us of the strange and often haunting combinations of materials that can be found in Victorian mourning jewellery.

Symbols of mortality are incorporated through the details of her work. Julia considers taxidermy to be a celebration of life, a preservation of the beauty of the natural. She feels strongly about the fair and just treatment of animals.
