GERLINDE HUTH was born in Germany and studied jewellery design at Middlesex University, UK. She undertook post graduate work at the prestigious Royal College of Art, London, receiving her Masters degree in 1995. Working from her studio in London, she produces one-off pieces and edition series of work that are exhibited in the UK and internationally.
The artist is fascinated by the structures, shapes and patterns of nature and architecture. A favourite object is the nautilus shell. The gently spirally exterior gives only a subtle hint of its intricate design. In the bead range she has tried to articulate that internal structure by drawing it out and making it the fabric of the piece itself. Using repetitive units she creates a visually complex shape that is structurally very simple.
Her commissions often include work for the film industry, most recently 10 Greek wreaths for Oliver Stone’s Alexander and 16 Roman wreaths for Da Vinci Code.
